A Gospel Christmas in Whoville

T’was a cold and cozy night in the land of Who

All the presents were opened, even the ones marked From:Me To:You

Games were gamed, talks were talked and all the food had been fooded

Funny stories told-yes, even the one where Grandma Who tooted

As the Whos early night turned into late

Their talks turned to concern about their fate

Something was missing in their Christmas pursuit of joy

It couldn’t be bought, ate or even come from a toy

A heavy darkness came as the Whos slumped into their nook

Elder Who stood up, remembering something he read in a Book

He had many books but forgot about the only one he would trust

The gold line pages glimmered as he blew away the dust

The candles and the mood grew increasingly dim

They had nothing and no one to blame, ”The Grinch?!”, no not even him

“Our efforts for joy we can’t fix on our own!”

The answer was hopeless-everyone began to groan

Until Elder Who shouted with zeal he couldn’t contain

“I’ve found the answer-our search for joy is not in vain!”

“I once forgot but now I remember why we celebrate this Christmas day!”

“This man named Jesus came to take this dark dismay!”

Their hearts jumped high as if it was a toast

“This present is wrapped in grace, a gift, lest any Who should boast!”

All the Whos were  thankful from the smallest of small to the tallest of tall

They realized they had already received the greatest Gift of all

The songs of presents and chocolates now wasn’t the reason they sing

Their songs shifted to praise this most Gracious King

Psalm 16:11 (LSB)

11You will make known to me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand there are pleasures forever.

Matthew 1:20–21 (LSB)

20But when he had considered this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for the One who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.

21“And she will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”
